Hailea Water Chillers

Hailea Water Chillers

Water Chillers & Nutrient Cooling

Maintaining the "Sweet Spot" for your nutrient solution—typically between 18°C and 22°C—is the difference between a record-breaking harvest and a total crop failure. In our Australian climate, especially during the humid QLD summers, nutrient reservoirs can quickly climb above 24°C.

When your water gets too warm, dissolved oxygen levels plummet, and your roots become a breeding ground for Pythium (Root Rot). A Hailea Water Chiller is the most reliable insurance policy for your hydroponic system.

Hailea HC Series: Performance & Pump Guide

The Hailea HC series are "inline" chillers. They do not have internal pumps, so you will need to pair them with a submersible pump to circulate the water from your reservoir through the chiller and back.

Model Horsepower Tank Capacity Recommended Pump Flow Inlet/Outlet Size
HC-100A 1/20 HP Up to 100L 200 – 1,000 L/hr 13mm / 20mm
HC-250A 1/6 HP Up to 250L 600 – 2,200 L/hr 13mm / 20mm
HC-500A 1/2 HP Up to 500L 1,200 – 3,000 L/hr 20mm / 25mm
HC-1000A 1 HP Up to 1,000L 1,500 – 4,000 L/hr 20mm / 25mm

Expert Tips for Choosing Your Chiller

  • The "Climate Buffer": If your grow room or reservoir is located in an uninsulated garage or shed, we recommend sizing up. For a 100L tank in a hot room, the HC-250A will work more efficiently and last longer than the HC-100A.

  • Placement is Key: Chillers work by pulling heat out of the water and venting it into the air. Ensure your chiller has at least 40cm of clearance on all sides. If possible, vent the hot air out of your grow space entirely.

  • Flow Rate Matters: If your water pump is too slow, the water may freeze inside the heat exchanger. If it’s too fast, the chiller won't have enough "contact time" to drop the temperature effectively. Aim for a pump that sits in the middle of the recommended flow rate listed above.

  • Maintenance: Check the dust filter on the front of your Hailea unit monthly. A clean filter ensures the compressor stays cool and your electricity bill stays low.
